Introduction. This is the stage where you will begin to experiment with the skills you have acquired over the last three years or so. Up to now, the grammar you have met has been shown in a simplistic way, but there are many more applications available which, if they were taught in the first three years, would have resulted in information overload.
Possessives, for example, are fairly simple, but there are other rules which govern the use of these. In the advanced zone, you will meet these additional uses, and given your existing knowledge, you will be able to add these extra factors to your knowledge base, and understand the unfolding nature of the language to a higher level of competency and elegance.
Much of the information in this zone will be dedicated to enhancing your knowledge of existing grammar structures as well as introducing new ones. The subjunctive mood, for example, is capable of being a subject in its own right, therefore you will find over the coming weeks a substantial amount of information provided on this topic. It is your command of the subjunctive which will increase your levels of esteem among native Italian speakers, and will earn you a particular respect when engaging in conversations with them.
You will also find advanced level articles which will not just help you with the styles of written Italian, but also assist in the formation of your own opinions as you study this language in your fourth and fifth years. The articles will be in both Italian and English. You will also meet the very formal style of Italian used in commercial communication, and there will be plenty of examples of the phrases used in opening a letter, conveying the information, and closing a letter, indicating the respect due to a commercial organisation.
